Curved Hats vs. Flat Brim Hats
Share
If you’re into hats, you know there’s a constant debate between those who prefer their brim curved and those who like it flat. At Highr, we embrace all styles of custom hats because we understand that our amazing customers want options.
And we get it—we’d want options too!
Back in the ‘90s (ah, the good old days), curving the brim of your baseball cap was the thing to do. It was a symbol of rebellious teen spirit, and man, it was cool!
But like any trend, it evolved. By 2010, the super-stiff flat brim snapback became the dominant look among teens and headwear enthusiasts alike.
Since then, fashion trends have continued to change, but the best part about the 2020s? You can rock any hat style and still be on point. And we love it!
That’s why Highr offers most of our hat designs in every style: Snapback, FlexFit, and the classic curved bill Trucker Hat. So, whether you want a US State Flag Hat or anything else, you can get it in any style you choose.
How to Make Your Flat Bill Hats into Curved Bill Hats
Flat bill hats, also known as flat-brimmed hats, are said to have originated in California, specifically Oakland. They became a staple in urban streetwear fashion, and in recent years, flat bills have even made their mark in Major League Baseball. While some people love the look, others argue it’s “unprofessional” (feel free to insert your eyeroll here).
On the other hand, curved bill hats, the classic baseball cap style, have been around since the mid-1800s. They've been worn in athletics, the military, and even by certain police units worldwide!
But ultimately, the style of your hat is a personal choice. It’s a statement you make every time you leave the house. If you’re not a fan of the flat bill look (and let’s face it, it’s not for everyone), you can easily transform your flat bill hats into curved bill hats. Here’s how!
A Timeless Classic
So, you ordered a License Plate Hat in a flatbill style and now you realize it’s just not your thing. Maybe you even hate it. No worries—we’ve got you covered! You don’t need to ditch your hat or spend money on new curved ones. With this two-step process, you can make your flat bill hats into curved bill hats without any extra materials. Here’s how:
Step 1
Grab your flat bill hat and flip it over. Look at the two sections where the brim meets the cap. Gently pull those sections together. Your flat bill should start to form a funnel shape.
Hold the bill in place for 30 seconds. DO NOT (and we mean do not) fold the bill. The goal is to gently curve it, not to crease it.
Step 2
Now, it’s time to wrap your brim “burrito style!” With the same two sections where the brim meets the cap, tuck one end under the other and squeeze until the brim starts to look like a cylinder (or a burrito—feeling hungry yet?).
Hold this position for another 30 seconds.
Step 3 – There is No Step 3!
After holding the brim in place, release it and flatten it out to your desired curve.
That’s it! You’ve successfully transformed your flat bill hat into a curved bill hat with no extra tools needed.
Curve Your Enthusiasm
But before you rush off and start curving all of your flat bill hats, take a moment to think. Are you curving your hats because:
1. You simply don’t like how flat bills look on you? Or...
2. You feel like curved hats are trending right now?
If your answer is the second option, hold up! Instead of curving all your flat bill hats, why not add a few new curved bill hats to your collection? That way, when the flat bill trend makes a comeback, you’ll still have your favorite flat brim hats ready to wear.
